After joining the Alabama Woodworkers Guild of Birmingham (AWG), I discovered the excitement of the AWG Annual Furniture Show.
In 2005,
I decided to enter a piece of furniture in the show. I chose a Library Reference Stand I made for my wife,
Cheri. It holds a dictionary on the top, and has two shelves below. All three sections swivel separately.
I was proud to earn a 3rd place ribbon. Not bad for my first entry.
In 2006, I entered 3 items in different categories. I entered a collection of pens in the Wood Turning
Beginners category and was awarded a 1st place ribbon. The last time I received a blue ribbon was as a
teenager in 4-H.
I also entered a collection of Wine Stoppers in the Wood Turning Beginners category and received a 2nd
place ribbon.
The third category I entered was for Cabinets, Boxes and Trunks. I chose a Family Heirloom Chest with
hand cut Dovetail corners and received a 2nd place ribbon.
